BREAKING: France has revealed today that unauthorized drones flew over several sensitive military sites, including the Toulon naval base, during a military exercise in October.

The overflights took place between October 9 and 13, disrupting Exercise Typhoon, which ran from October 5 to 16 in the Toulon area, according to ICI Provence.

The drones were spotted over the naval base, the headquarters of the Directorate General of Armaments in Toulon, and the 54th Artillery Regiment in Hyères. The Toulon naval base is one of France’s most important military installations, serving as the main home port for its Mediterranean fleet and hosting the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.

Despite the use of advanced electromagnetic jamming systems, none of the drones could be recovered. Their exact number and models remain unknown, although a source told ICI Provence that several large drones were spotted during each incident.

A judicial investigation has been opened under the authority of the Toulon public prosecutor’s office to identify those responsible and establish their motives.

The overflights occurred in restricted airspace where flights are prohibited to protect sensitive military installations.
