South China Sea
The South China Sea is contested by China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan. Confrontations between coast guards, militia vessels and navies around the Spratly and Paracel islands and Scarborough Shoal are frequent, and US and allied warships patrol the area.
