BREAKING: 🇱🇹 Lithuania is deploying up to 100 soldiers to reinforce its border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas says the military was asked to support border guards as a preventive measure following yesterday’s aggressive incident on the Latvia–Belarus border and concerns that Russia could announce another mobilization.
Officials say people trying to avoid potential mobilization in Russia could attempt to cross into Lithuania illegally.
The deployment will begin immediately, with soldiers expected to assist border patrols for around two weeks, until October 16.
Lithuanian authorities stress that the situation on the border is currently calm. The country shares almost 275 kilometers of border with Russia.
This comes as the Baltic states continue strengthening their border security amid growing concerns over Russian hybrid activity and regional security.
