BREAKING: Sweden is deploying around 100 soldiers and officers with its most advanced air defense system, Patriot, to eastern Poland to protect NATO’s key logistics hub in Rzeszów near the Russian border.
The Swedish unit will defend the area against ballistic missiles, drones and other aerial threats. The mission is scheduled to begin December 1 and could last up to seven months.
Swedish officials call it the most complex operation Sweden has undertaken as a NATO ally.
The Rzeszów hub handles around 18,000 tons of equipment for Ukraine every month, making it a critical part of NATO’s support network.
Sweden says Russia could seek to disrupt the hub and that defending it is now an important part of protecting NATO’s eastern flank.
