Eight U.S. Marines were injured September 14th when an Iranian cruise missile impacted the ship they were operating on in the Strait of Hormuz, according to NBC News, citing three U.S. officials. Officials declined to say what type of vessel it was, calling it a "maritime vessel", however confirmed it was not a U.S. Navy ship.

Seven enlisted Marines and one officer suffered smoke inhalation and possible traumatic brain injuries. None were seriously hurt, and all returned to duty soon after. They were serving as part of a battalion landing team, a Marine infantry unit capable of amphibious and maritime operations.

The Pentagon's casualty database added the eight Marines to its injured list Wednesday, nearly 10 days after the attack, without saying where, when or how they were hurt. It now lists 861 wounded in the Iran war. CENTCOM declined to comment.
