Last month I said that one of the biggest indicators on how Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi plans to steer a sovereign Iraq will be how he responds to attacks from state actors/NSAs on Iraq’s sovereign territory. I said this amidst ongoing renewed Iranian strikes on Iraqi Kurdistan. So if these reports are true, my previous assessment that Zaidi was largely working on actions to limit Iranian influence for show until the U.S. complied with their portion of the withdrawal deal, with the goal of deepening ties with Iran in a post-U.S. in Iraq dynamic.
