Cyber Attack ·

Most European supermarkets and food retailers are operating normally this morning following yesterday's widespread cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems.

Retailers that failed to detect the attacks in time suffered the most significant losses, with large quantities of food spoiling due to rising temperatures and having to be discarded.

All reported attacks appear to have taken place during the night, when stores were closed and staff were not present to monitor the refrigeration systems. This timing meant the compromised equipment could continue operating at abnormal temperatures for hours before the damage was discovered.

The attacks targeted refrigeration systems managed by Danfoss. The company had previously urged operators to update their systems and secure their equipment. Cybersecurity agencies had also issued warnings and advised businesses to take preventive measures. However, not all operators followed these recommendations, leaving their systems vulnerable.

Cybersecurity agencies across the affected European countries are now investigating the incidents, analyzing the compromised systems and working to establish how the attacks were carried out and who was responsible.
