NEW: 🇳🇱 A man has been arrested at Leeuwarden Air Base in the Netherlands following a bomb threat, according to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
The man reportedly shouted that he had a bomb with him. Earlier this afternoon, a suspicious package was found at the air base’s main gate, with Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists investigating.
Leeuwarden is an important Dutch military airfield, hosting F-35 fighter aircraft and serving as a home base for MQ-9 Reaper drones.
Meanwhile, a separate suspicious package was found earlier today at the Military Postal Organization (MPO) in Bunnik, near Utrecht. The building was evacuated around 11:00 after the package was reported as suspicious.
Specialists examined the package for possible explosives, but it was determined not to contain an explosive and was declared safe. Personnel have since been allowed back inside.
The MPO is responsible for sending mail to Dutch military personnel stationed abroad.
