NEW: Latvia has released new information about drone incursions into its airspace on November 1 and 3.

Latvia’s National Armed Forces have provided further details about both incidents, including the drones’ flight paths, air defense response, and preliminary assessments of their possible origins.

🇱🇻 November 1 — Russian drone suspected

A drone entered Latvian airspace near the Krāslava and Ludza regions before crossing back into Russia.

Latvian forces tracked the aircraft and deployed an interceptor drone. The explosion heard by local residents was caused by the interceptor’s self-destruction mechanism, activated after the threat had passed.

Following an analysis of sensor data and consultations with Ukrainian partners, the military concluded that the drone was most likely a Russian Geran type UAV.

However, authorities cannot determine whether it was carrying explosives.

🇱🇻 November 3 — Drone of undetermined origin

Another drone was detected near the Balvi and Ludza regions. Latvia deployed two interceptor drones, while NATO fighter jets were also activated in response.

The drone is believed to have crashed in the Balvi region, where search operations are ongoing.

According to preliminary visual identification, the aircraft resembled drones used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. However, its origin and exact type have not been confirmed.

Authorities say more information will be released once the drone is located and examined.
