NEW: πŸ‡°πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°πŸ‡· North Korea has deployed a self-propelled 122mm howitzer close to the border with South Korea, in an unusual display of military force as tensions between the two countries continue to rise.

South Korean observers also spotted three North Korean armored vehicles with their gun barrels pointed south and around 20–30 soldiers carrying out fencing work inside the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The conspicuous positioning of the artillery, which is normally designed to operate under concealment and cover, may be a deliberate show of force intended to signal Pyongyang’s determination to enforce its border policy through military means.

The move comes amid a dispute over a September 21 landmine explosion in the DMZ. South Korea accused North Korean troops of laying the mine, while the UN Command said it violated the Korean War Armistice Agreement. Pyongyang denies responsibility and accuses Seoul of fabricating the incident.

North Korea has now sent a letter to the UN Security Council repeating its accusations and warning that alleged violations of its sovereignty could trigger self-defence measures.
