🇬🇧 NEW: Russian intelligence vessels were monitoring NATO naval exercises off the coast of Scotland, prompting the Royal Navy to launch a series of operations to track Russian military activity around UK waters.

The Royal Navy has revealed details of three focused operations conducted over 17 days, involving HMS Dauntless, HMS Tyne, and Merlin and Wildcat helicopters.

From September 29 to October 8, Merlin helicopters deployed to Scotland under Operation Iceblast to monitor the Russian intelligence-gathering ship Viktor Leonov, which was observing NATO warships participating in Exercise Strike Warrior involving more than 2,000 personnel from six nations.

Meanwhile, from October 1 to 14, HMS Dauntless and HMS Tyne closely tracked the Russian frigate Neustrashimy as it escorted sanctioned cargo ships through the English Channel.

The operations were designed to monitor Russian movements, gather intelligence on its activities and ensure the UK and its allies maintained awareness of the maritime situation.
