NEW | The Philippine military says it tracked 101 different Chinese coast guard and navy ships across four key West Philippine Sea areas in September, up from 56 in August.
Of September’s total, 32 were PLA Navy ships, compared with 15 the previous month. The AFP counted nine PLAN vessels in September, up from one in August.
That does not mean China has doubled its permanent naval presence there.
But it does point to a heavier PLA Navy footprint around the same flashpoints Manila is already watching most closely.
