NOW: A major fire is burning at Saudi Arabia’s Rabigh oil refinery as the Houthi campaign against Saudi energy infrastructure expands.
The MTG-I1 satellite detected a fire with a FRP (fire radiating power) of ~410 MW at the facility, while satellite imagery shows a thick plume of black smoke rising from the refinery.
In recent days, the Houthis have claimed strikes against Aramco facilities in Riyadh and Khurais, saying the attacks are retaliation for Saudi military operations in Yemen.
Independent confirmation that a Houthi attack caused this specific blaze is still needed.
Saudi authorities have not yet confirmed the cause.
