Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell: "Power is combat now."
The Pentagon's FORTRESS initiative is built to keep major U.S. military bases operating for at least 90 days with no civilian power, outside fuel, water or global supply chains.
Portable nuclear reactors, battery storage and independent microgrids would keep the bases powered. Strategic reserves of ammunition, fuel and spare parts are also planned.
