Remember that the military operates under political authority. In a democratic system, civilian leadership sets the strategic objectives, while military commanders are responsible for executing them and providing professional advice. They can identify failures, recommend changes, and adapt their tactics, but they cannot independently dictate the political direction of a war.

When political leaders become too entrenched in their positions or refuse to acknowledge that a strategy is failing, even the most capable military can find itself constrained by decisions made above it. Ultimately, military success depends not only on the ability to learn and adapt on the battlefield, but also on the political leadership’s willingness to recognise mistakes and change course.

A military can adapt to the realities of war, but when the political leadership refuses to adapt, the military’s ability to change the outcome becomes severely limited. 😅

And with that, I’ll wrap up my thoughts for today. I’ve shared more perspectives today than I have in quite a long time! 😅

I hope you always appreciate our exchange of views, even when we don’t necessarily agree.
