‼️ The Lebanon-Israel framework agreement was born out of an extraordinary and painful moment: war, bloodshed and immense pressure created an urgency : Lebanese state had to step forward and try to reclaim the initiative. Lebanon’s deep state bent to the magnitude of that moment.
Three months later, implementation has slowed and the old power structures are resurfacing.
Figures aligned with the deep state say that they continue to support negotiations, while signaling that they may want to negotiate a different agreement.
Samir Geagea’s remarks at the Washington Institute today put the spotlight back on the speaker of the parliament and the power he consolidated calling him the President of the deep state.
