The promised big drop for 16 Air Assault brigade has happened in Germany the other day. CGS writes "600" were airborne, so a rare BG-scale exercise.
4 RAF A400M appear to have taken part, with the 600 delivered in two successive waves. (Thanks to @DefenceGeek who is the specialist in tracking flight movements!)
This is presumably part of the same big series of exercise events which, earlier this year, was apparently going to include air despatch of L118 Light Guns (this is a capability the RAF has lacked for years now due to interminable delays in acquiring suitable airdrop platforms for heavy payloads; 7 RHA only ever got to experiment airdropping L118 and movers by working with the US paratroopers and their L119s...). We'll see if anything comes to light about this part; government has been asked in Written Questions recently but refused to provide an answer on the topic.
Another serial that is (was? With the cuts to training budget, who knows) planned is the move of a whole 8 L118 gun battery by air in s single period of darkness; another thing that is not practiced frequently.
Presumably we'll see more over the coming days; assume more images will make it on Defence Imagery eventually.
