Ukraine says the speed restrictions on Starlink’s military service Starshield have been lifted, ending nearly 11 days of limits, according to the Financial Times. Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara said the ministry’s monitoring recorded a recovery in speeds, with drones able to fly faster than 400 km/h on a “stable connection.” Zelenskyy said the restrictions were lifted overnight. Units had reported connection problems above about 130 km/h and a complete loss of signal above 160 km/h hindering Ukraine's offensive and defensive capabilities.
On Saturday, Elon Musk accused Ukraine’s military of violating Starlink’s terms of service by using the commercial system for “offensive drone strikes to kill people,” writing on X “That loophole was closed last week.” Several Ukrainian officials denied it, saying their drones use Starshield, which Musk has said the U.S. government controls. Presidential adviser Serhii Beskrestnov said commercial terminals in Ukraine have been limited to 70 to 90 km/h since last winter.
Earlier reports conflicted on who imposed the limit. The Wall Street Journal reported Musk ordered it, Reuters reported it came from the White House, and President Donald J. Trump said on Friday he didn’t know who ordered it but “had heard” it was resolved. Zelenskyy said Tuesday intelligence sharing resumed after talks with Special U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff, though U.S. officials had denied it was cut.
