UPDATE | 🌐 NATO is stepping up its presence in the Black Sea after a series of deadly drone attacks against commercial ships near Romania and Bulgaria.
Following a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, the alliance announced additional maritime patrol aircraft, radar systems and drones to strengthen surveillance and reconnaissance.
NATO military spokesperson Col. Martin O'Donnell says allies have also sent, or are preparing to send, intelligence personnel and forensic teams to examine evidence from the attacks.
The immediate priority is improving awareness of what is happening at sea and gathering evidence that could help identify those responsible.
The number of additional aircraft and drones, their deployment locations and the timetable for full operational availability remain unclear.
