UPDATE | RAF FAIRFORD / IRAN ๐ฌ๐ง๐ฎ๐ท
The September 27 incident at RAF Fairford has now become the subject of a coordinated international response.
The case began when five men were arrested near the British airbase, used by American bombers for operations against Iran. Two additional suspects were subsequently detained, while concerns over a possible attack prompted the US to withdraw its B-1 bombers.
Today, Prime Minister Andy Burnham told Parliament that the suspected operation was โhighly likelyโ coordinated in Iran and โalmost certainlyโ directed by the IRGC.
In a joint statement, 29 countries, including the US, France and Germany, recognized the UK's attribution of Iranian involvement.
But the statement goes further. It condemns Iran's alleged use of covert networks and proxies for lethal plots, arson, sabotage, cyberattacks and other hostile activities abroad.
It also references recent attacks across Europe targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists and US interests, claimed by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI).
The signatories pledge closer cooperation to identify, disrupt and prosecute those responsible.
Separately, London has summoned Iran's ambassador and announced new sanctions against two Iranian nationals accused of hostile activities overseas.
Iran denies involvement in the Fairford incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
What began as a counterterrorism investigation near a military base is now part of a broader diplomatic confrontation over alleged Iranian covert operations on European soil.
