UPDATE| 🇸🇦🇾🇪 Saudi Arabia has spent billions building one of the region's most advanced air-defense networks. Yet Houthi missiles and drones continue to reach sensitive targets.
A senior US official briefed on Saudi defenses told the Wall Street Journal that the Houthis are combining drones, low-flying cruise missiles and ballistic missiles in coordinated waves, while also targeting areas without air-defense coverage.
According to the official, Saudi forces have intercepted more than 90% of Houthi missiles aimed at protected areas. But more than half of recent Houthi attacks reportedly targeted locations outside that coverage.
With interceptor stocks under pressure and launchers difficult to locate inside Yemen, Saudi Arabia faces a challenge that additional air-defense systems alone may not quickly resolve.
